One day in Puerto Morelos: beach, reef, burger

Coming in from Cancún or Playa del Carmen, or staying in town? Here's how we'd spend one easy day in Puerto Morelos, from the first swim to the last fry.

Morning: the beach and the lighthouse

Start early on the beach by the main square, before it warms up. Walk down to the leaning lighthouse, the old one that tilted after a hurricane and stayed that way. It's the photo everyone takes, and for good reason.

The town is small and walkable. Park once, and the beach, the square and the pier are all a few minutes apart.

Late morning: snorkel the reef

The reef sits right offshore and is a protected national park, so the water is calm and the snorkeling is easy. Go with one of the licensed local guides from the beach; they handle the gear and the park fee.

Afternoon: the cenotes or a slow beach day

Want fresh water? The cenotes route starts in Puerto Morelos and runs inland, with several cenotes along the road. Rather stay put? Find some shade, go for another swim, and let the afternoon happen.

Before you head home: a burger

Walk over to Av. Javier Rojo Gómez and sit outside, or message us on WhatsApp before you leave the sand and pick it up on your way home. We're open every day, 12 to 9 PM.

After a day in the sun: one of the doubles, a half kilo of wings with specialty fries, and a cold flavored mineral water.

Good to know

If you drive in, our street closes to cars from 3 PM. Park a few blocks away and walk. You'll be walking everywhere anyway.
